Christmas at Caroline's. . . A Guide to Small Space Entertaining
Like many apartments on the brownstone-lined blocks of Bed Stuy, Caroline’s place has an open floor plan brimming with Brooklyn charm. Around here, what you gain in exposed brick and downtown cool can cost you in square footage. But that won’t discourage Caroline from entertaining this holiday season. Read on to find out how she's making her small space a big hit this holiday season with the help of Lux Pad Interiors.
When I took on Caroline’s Project in the summer of 2016, we considered her entertaining needs when designing the furniture layout. I wanted to make sure Caroline had accommodations to host an intimate dinner party and entertain friends. This alone can be quite a task in a 150 square foot space. Not to mention, my client wanted super "loungy" living room seating with room to layout on a sectional sofa. It was a tall order but I knew we could incorporate both dining space and large comfortable seating in a relatively small place. Instead of cramming in two small living and dining zones, I opted to make one large arrangement that could serve as both. The solution was to use a center table that could be raised to dining height or lowered to cocktail height. Now, months later, we have converted her coffee table into a winter wonderland dining-scape.
If you don’t have space to storage holiday décor, dish the holiday dished and use your everyday wares with a few festive touches. There used Caroline’s colorful plates, bowls, and placemats and paired it with holiday themes napkins and rings. Fabric napkins and decorative napkin rings can be an impactful way to add a little holiday charm. We typically don’t break them out for everyday meals so they feel really special. Not to mention, they take up very little space when it’s time to store them away.
I tossed Caroline’s fur throw on the center of the dining table as an impromptu runner and topped it with a sparkling holiday tree. A centerpiece can add a beautiful finishing touch to your table-scape.
You can create a beautiful holiday table setting by adding a few festive touches to your existing dinnerware. So break out your everyday dishes and invite over friends and family for a soiree. And don’t forget to cheers to The Lux Life!
